performance license faqs

01

What is a performance license?

It's a fee paid to the author for permission to perform the his copywrited work for an audience.

02

When do I need a performance license?

Any time you perform one of our scripts for an audience of any size.

03

Do I need a license if I'm not a professional and/or not charging admission

Yes. It doesn't matter if you're professional or amateur, free or charged admission. If you have an audience, you need a license.

04

Do I need a license to perform for my friends & family, co-op/school, or church?

Yes. As long as you have an audience, you need permission to perform our scripts.

05

Do I need a license for each performance, or is it a flat fee for any number of performances of the same title?

You pay for each performance of one title that you do. If you perform a title once, you pay for one performance license. If you perform the same title five times, you pay the license fee five times.

06

Do I purchase a license before of after my performance?

Before. When you're ready to order your cast's scripts, go ahead and purchase the license too.

07

I need to change the date or time of the performance. Does that affect the license I bought?

Nope. We don't care when and where you perform. We just need to know how many times you're performing a title.

08

What happens in I have to cancel a performance?

Refunds are available for those who have to cancel a performance and could not reschedule it. Email us at GYATtheater@outlook.com when you need a refund for a cancellation.

09

May I record a dress rehearsal or performance?

No. This is a form of duplication of the script that is not currently permitted by the licensing agreement.

10

May I share a partial or full recording of the performance online?

No. The performance license only allows you to perform your show in front of a live audience. Posting any portion of the performance anywhere online or sharing a video file/physical copy of a recorded performance is a violation of the licensing agreement.

11

May I livestream a performance?

No. In the future we may offer livestream rights, but that is beyond our ability at this moment.

12

May I take pictures of my performance and share them online?

Absolutely! The actors, costumes, sets--all that is your work that you can be proud to show off. We'd love it if you shared your photos with us on Instagram @gyattheater.

13

How do I order a performance license?

All of our titles are licensed the same way for the same price. Simply visit the "Shop" tab, select "Performance Rights: All Titles," enter the number of performances you want, and checkout or continue shopping.

14

script faqs

01

How many scripts do I need to buy?

Enough so every actor and director has their own script. If you want to read the full script before committing to performing, you may buy one individually for your own perusal.

03

May I photocopy, scan, or take pictures and upload scripts to email or save?

No. Duplicating any part of the script in any form is stealing from the author.

05

How long does it take to get my changes approved?

It depends on what and how much you want changed. We will do our best to get back to you withing 3-5 business days.

07

Am I required to buy a director's script?

Nope. It's just an option for those who would enjoy it.

02

May actors who live in the same household share one script?

No. Firstly, this cheats the author out of the full amount due to him. Secondly, it sounds like a better idea than it actually is. You'll save a lot of trouble and frustration by making sure each actor has his own script.

04

May I cut, edit, or change the script?

Not without prior permission from the author. We do our best to provide clean scripts that do not require cutting or adjusting crude language or actions. However, if you wish to cut, edit, or change any part of a script for any reason, please contact us at GYATtheater@outlook.com before you order your performance license.

06

Are director's edition scripts only for directors?

Director's scripts are made specifically for the needs of directors and stage managers. This edition tends to be too big and bulky for actors, but anyone who needs the extra note taking room may use a director's script.

08

How long does it take for scripts to ship?

We print scripts to order, which takes about 3-5 business days. Standard shipping takes another 3-5 business days, so you can expect to scripts to arrive within 6-10 business days.
